I had the notion to create a small accessory knife after a nice conversation with friends while in Bangkok traveling. These particular friends were as many of my friends seem to be, fellow expats and lifelong travelers and transplants. The discussion was about the French tradition (they were originally from the Basque region) of always having a small knife for cutting bread, cheese and meats to be shared with friends.
This connected with me and as Tony Bourdain started his now famous journeys into the world of travel and writing I too was just realizing that I'd be going down the same path back in 2004. When I was on one of my trips to Thailand in 2005 I took Tony's book with me (on compact disc no less!) and it made a great impression on me as I listened during the long 25 hour journey from Texas (with no TVs) and I kept it with me for that foundational 6 week trip.
By the time I got back to the USA I was determined to leave and within 6 months I had moved to Thailand full time and somehow I felt linked with Tony forever as a bit of a drifter.
This model is dedicated to him and others who have an unquenchable desire to keep moving.
